Long-Press Tricks for (Almost) Every iPhone App - What's New Wednesday

From http://billsklodowski.com - When it was first introduced, this feature was called "Force Press." That meant you had to actually exert a little pressure on your iPhone / iPad screen to get something to happen. Apparently that didn't work so well, or people just didn't get the hang of making it work... so Apple changed it to "Long Press." Basically this means you only need to touch and hold your finger on an app on your iPhone or iPad for a few seconds, and some new menu will magically appear.

What kind of menu? Well, that's the subject of today's video. Not just the "baked-in" Apple iOS apps are using this feature. Lots (LOTS) of other apps are also allowing users to quickly get to special features and functions of an app by simple long-pressing on it on the iPhone or iPad screen.

For example, a long-press on the Camera icon shows quick-access links to allow you to take a selfie, shoot a video, or even a slow-motion video (your results may vary, depending on the model phone you have and the features built in).

Still, there are lots (did I say LOTS?) of apps that allow the user to get more efficient use from their iPhones with the long-press feature. In this video, I'll demonstrate some of the ones I've found on my iPhone, and invite you to explore your iPhone or iPad a little to see what you can do with all those apps you've already installed.

Remember: As I tell my technology classes (both live and online), you can't break the iPhone trying this stuff out! I know a lot of people are hesitant to try new things out of fear they'll "mess it up." Well believe me, that's almost impossible with your iPhone or iPad! Yes, you may see some things you've not seen before, but there's nothing wrong with that. And if you do get into something and want to get out, just press the Home button (or swipe to the Home screen on newer iPhone / iPad models) and you'll be right back to where you left off... no harm done.

Remember also: you can get a free weekly "Recap" email telling you all about the past week's videos, and a link to download the free "class handout" to show you exactly how to do it what we show on the videos (usually the iPhone Friday video, but sometimes both the weekly videos have handouts.)

iPhone Friday for 3.29.2019 - Managing Your Phone's Notifications

It’s “iPhone Friday” and today’s video is all about managing “notifications” on your iPhone. Do you have lots of annoying pop-ups showing up at all hours on yoru phone? Apps telling you about all sorts of things you don’t really care to know? (Or, at very least, don’t want to be bothered with various beeps and buzzes?)
In this video, you’ll learn the easy way to manage all those so-called “notifications” on your phone. What they are, how to turn off the ones you don’t want to see, and keep the ones you do. It’s all about knowing where to find the correct switches and buttons in your iPhone’s “Settings” menu. Don’t panic! It’s not that hard. This video will show you how.
